On Saturday, May 30, Love Acadiana (LA) will host a “Buddy Blessing Box” distribution, a new and unique project where congregation members of several churches will directly deliver hope and grocery resources to individuals they identify who could use a little help but might never ask for it. Made possible with a generous grant from Love Our Community Foundation, LA’s Buddy Box project is slated to bless 1,000 families / individuals in the community.

Addressing a Need

The coronavirus pandemic has profoundly affected the economy globally, and especially here in Acadiana, where rock bottom oil prices have devastated the industry upon which our local economy heavily relies. We are witnessing the growth of a population who is new to unemployment or underemployment through no fault of their own. They’re our friends and neighbors, co-workers, family members and acquaintances, who usually take care of others but now are in need of a little help themselves.

The Buddy Blessing Box is Love Acadiana‘s answer to that need. By partnering with local churches in various areas – including all Our Savior’s Church campuses, Crossroads Church, Destiny of Faith and The Family Church – we encourage church members to identify those in our community who are in these unprecedented situations, regardless of whether they attend any church, and then sign up to take them a Buddy Blessing Box. The Box is a gift of groceries with a note of encouragement to let them know they are valued, loved and that God has not forgotten them during this time.

Tara Baudoin, LA’s new executive director, points out that the project “also provides a way for ‘Buddies’ – those delivering the boxes – to tangibly love their neighbors, so it’s a win-win for both giver and receiver. As the Body of Christ,” she said, “we have been given hope for today and for the future, and we are compelled and excited to share that hope and encouragement with others.”

Be a Buddy!

If you would like to join Love Acadiana in sharing hope, sign up to deliver a Buddy Blessing Box filled with groceries to someone you know who could use some encouragement right now and may never ask for it. Just saving them a trip to the grocery store can offer a little hope, and a little hope goes a long way.
